Welcome to our Aussie farm's Chicken Site -

This is a little offshoot to our Starwood Alpaca Farm site.
This is one of my hobbies breeding and raising show chickens.

The two main breeds we specialise in are:

Australorp Bantams

Campines - mainly Silver, but we have some Gold Campines

We also have small mixed varieties of bantam hens that we use as broodies.
We like to use cross bred jap/silkies, wyandotte/silkies, or jap/sussex bantams. They seem to do a great job in raising the pure bred chickens.

I like to breed the chickens as naturally as possible and therefore I try only to use our incubator sparingly with our eggs. I prefer to let the hens raise their own. I find that naturally hatched chickens rather than incubator hatched chickens have stronger legs and better bone structure for later in life, and in the show scene we seem to do a lot better with natural chickens.

When I was kid my family kept chickens in the backyard as a hobby for both the show scene and the dinner table.

To us there is nothing like your own fresh chickens and fresh eggs that you have lovingly grown up yourself.

I've also found some great recycling ideas for own "Chook Heaven" chicken pens, and the small tips I have I can pass on to you on our site.

Please sign my guestbook and let me know what you think of this site. Also feel free to contribute to this site with your own tips.

The Chickens

I had Campines when I was a young kid, and started breeding them again. I bought my new birds from a top breeder in the hills near Adelaide, SA and also Central Victoria. They travelled home in two separate Qantas flights and they have never had it so good here in Tropical Queensland.

These birds will give our current Campines the neccessary good blood lines and more irridescence in the feather.

With the 2001 bred birds, so far in 2002 they are looking pretty good.

Our Australorp bantams are from a combination of winning show stock plus our own variety of Australorp.

We are pleased with the results and look forward to the 2002 show season with the progeny. We have bred some "bloody beauties" this season, and we are keen to get then in the Show Pens.

We have been on the land for over 30 years. We have run stud cattle, pigs, horses, goats and alpacas as well as crop farmed as an alternative to our main working careers.

My chickens, Australorp Bantams and Campines are a bit of a hobby that I find a lot of fun. I had many others breeds, and quite a lot of Light Sussex at one stage, but I decided to stick to just two breeds. I find this easier to handle.

Of course, I still go boating and fishing, but I cant take the chickens on the boat, only the pre cooked ones.

Above is a magnificent Silver Campine rooster.
These are the poultry that we specialise in, and if they dont make it in the ShowRing, they are bloody good eating.
